Pile-up

Pile-up is the effect of multiple interactions per beam crossing and/or the effects of events overlay. These so called minimum bias events or pile-up add a non-negligible level of background to the response of the detector system. At high luminosities several separate events are likely to occur at the same bunch crossing.
